About
About this site
Freight & Floor is an independent information site about work, trade and globalization. It collects facts, dates and public data in one place and explains how to read them.
What this site is
The site covers five topics: offshoring and outsourcing, trade agreements, the Rust Belt and deindustrialization, how to watch an economic documentary, and employment data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Each topic has its own article, and the articles link to one another.
What this site is not
It is not a shop and it sells nothing. It is not connected to any film, filmmaker, distributor, company, party or organization, and it does not speak on behalf of any of them. Names of institutions appear only as sources of data.
How the articles are written
Figures come from public sources such as the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Census Bureau, and every figure is given with its source and year. Where economists disagree, the articles say so instead of choosing a side. Articles describe general facts and do not name private individuals.
Charts
The one chart on this site shows manufacturing employment from 1960 to 2025. It uses the public BLS series CES3000000001. The annual averages were calculated from monthly values, and the full table sits next to the chart so that you can check every point.
Technical note
The site loads its scripts and fonts from its own server and does not use external services. Motion effects are switched off when your system asks for reduced motion, and all content can be read without scripts.
